Chapter 37

“okay, so you two mind telling me what happened back there?” zephyr asked once Deker, Selina and himself were away from the rest of their friends “and I don’t just mean that armour and vehicles you were riding cause something tells me it’s got something to do with those things you call heartless, that magic and those swords of yours?”. He looked around to make sure no one was listening “because I’m starting to wonder if I’m losing my mind here”

Selina chuckled “don’t worry you’re not losing your mind and yes it’s got something to do with those things too”

“Zephyr, have you or anyone else been attacked by those heartless before today or maybe have people been disappearing?” Deker asked in a serious tone.

Zephyr went quite for a moment as he thought about what Deker had asked, “Well now that you mention it, about a week ago there have been rumours going about of strange looking aliens going about and attacking people. I even heard some rumours that a few people have gone missing but why would you ask that?”

Deker and Selina looked at each other with a pained expression, “so they got here before us” Selina said sadly.

“And it looks like they’ve already claimed some victims. Damn it!” Deker grunted.

“You know something about that as well don’t you?” zephyr asked now more concerned given what he just heard.

Deker sighed while looking at the ground “yes, those ‘aliens’ that have been attacking are most likely the heartless . . .” Deker looked up at zephyr “and those people have most likely disappeared because the heartless have consumed them or rather their hearts”
“Consume . . . hearts?” zephyr asked confused “i-i don’t understand?”

Unbeknownst to them though was someone who was ears dropping on the conversation behind a wall next to a door. Tessa in her Anne disguise, smirked as she listened, “heh, this should be interesting.” She said to herself “wonder how their gonna explain this”

Selina fidgeted nervously, she wasn’t very good at lying much. She had tried sometimes back when her and Tessa got caught sneaking into the castle, Merlin had said it was a good quality of hers. However she wasn’t sure how to tell zephyr the truth since as she leaned from master yen Sid, she wasn’t exactly allowed to tell others about the other worlds unless they already knew or figured it out. Although zephyr’s home world was big with other worlds, she doubted they were anything like the ‘other worlds'. This left her in a difficult position, if she couldn’t lie to zephyr, how was she supposed to keep her and Deker’s secret.

Lucky for her, Deker was already ahead of her.

“The heartless are creatures from others worlds beyond the maps you have” Deker answered zephyr’s question which surprised Selina; he had basically revealed the truth to zephyr.

Zephyr’s eyes widen and whistled in surprise “beyond the map?! Never met anyone from beyond the mapped worlds we got but then the universe is pretty big. I’m guessing those heartless aren’t from around here either and since you seem to know them I’m guessing there from beyond the map too right?”

“Yes” Deker replied “though where exactly were not quite sure, all we know is that they have been a plague amongst the other outside worlds for a long time and they are dangerous”

“how dangerous” zephyr asked curiously with a bit a serious concern.

“Well those people that have went missing, there’s a good chance they’ve been turned to heartless”

“Turned to heartless? You make it sound like magic or witchcraft”

Selina sighed, “if only that were so. We could use our magic to fix the problem”. Though they could use magic to destroy the heartless she knew it didn’t fix the problem completely.

“You . . . use magic?” zephyr asked slowly as his eyes started to widen “wait, are you two witches or something?!”

Selina glared at zephyr, those who knew her knew well enough knew to be very cautious if they ever called her witch. Though she knew there were many names for those who used magic, sorcerer and sorceress, enchanter and enchantress, spell casters, magicians and mages. But the names witch and warlock were often reserved for those who used their magic and knowledge of the mystic arts for selfish and evil deeds.
Though that is not to say all witches and warlocks were bad as Merlin had taught her and Tessa, a lot of people who didn’t understand would use those names on basically every magic user and it wasn’t always a good thing to her. Especially when the word ‘witch’ was followed by the word ‘hunt’, it was for this reason and another that this word put Selina slightly on edge.

Especially for the other fact she was aware of.

“First we prefer to be called mages, second if you think we’re the kind that is bad we’re not and third so what if we are?” Selina answered in a defensive tone.

Zephyr held up his arms up, palms out defensively, “whoa hang on! I didn’t mean to sound like I had a problem” zephyr replied, trying to calm the white haired girl down “I was just surprised that’s all, it’s not every day I get to meet witc . . . I mean mages.
Actually I don’t think that happens to anyone”

Selina started to calm down, “and you don’t seem worried?”

Zephyr shrugged “well I have heard of stories of witches and they usually don’t sound too good, but then I’ve heard stories about ones that don’t sound bad either. You guys save me from those heartless and you saved my friends so it doesn’t look like you’re the bad ones.”

Deker smirked “heh, you don’t seem to think it’s all a trick or anything?”

“I’ve seen so called ‘magicians’ on the streets and I doubt any of them could do what you did. Sure I’ve seen that disappear and reappear trick but nothing like what you did with your weapons and then turning them into those vehicles? Yeah kind of hard not to believe that”

“Heh, good point” Selina smiled.

“So then . . . you guys aren’t just passing travellers are you?”

“Well no and yes.” Deker replied “we do hunt down the heartless but we usually travel around the worlds doing so”

“Sounds like cool job” said with thoughtful look “is it alright to ask how I can get me one of those weapons and jobs?”

This time it was Selina who answered, “Well to get the job you basically have to be able to wield the keyblade, as for getting a keyblade that a little complicated”.

Zephyr raised an eyebrow “how complicated?”

“Well normally the wielder is the one who chooses the weapon right?” Deker asked and zephyr nodded “well in this case it’s actually the weapon that chooses the wielder, you remember that 'trick' we did that made the keyblade disappear?”

Zephyr nodded, “hard to forget, it’s pretty cool trick”

“Well you see if the keyblade doesn’t choose you it will do that same trick only it goes back to the wielder instead straight away”.

Zephyr smirked "but then what about back at the  . . .”

“Hey Zeph! You might want to get in here!”

Before zephyr could finish he heard Jim call him and it sounded a bit urgent, “better go see what’s up” he replied to his friends and they nodded, following him into the study.  Tessa walked out from behind the wall, watching them.

She didn’t utter a word but her thoughts were mainly concerning zephyr’s reaction. “he took that pretty well, even if it wasn’t the complete truth.” Tessa smirked “interesting”

“okay Jim, what did you call . . . for . . .” zephyr managed to say before seeing the room around them. The room was darkened by a sphere, with floating orbs inside and bright green lines caging the sphere, lines that were familiar to zephyr.

“why, it’s a map!” Delbert said when he recognised the sphere’s lines too. Deker and Selina's mouths had dropped at the sight.

“this . . . is a map?!” Selina managed to ask.

“hey guys, what’s . . . going . . . on?” Anne asked when she entered the room and took in the sight around her.

“that’s what I’d like to know” zephyr replied, he looked over at Deker and like the others he could see the surprise on his face but he saw something else, recognition. “hey you alright man?” he asked.

Deker shook himself out of his trance and nodded, “yeah just . . . got a sense of déjà vu”.

“déjà vu?” zephyr thought “but he said they haven’t been here before didn’t they?”

“wait, wait, wait!” Delbert said as he noticed something “this is us, the planet montressor.”. the doctor tapped on the small planet and a pulse of light emitted from it before the small planets around them began to move in one direction, with lines connecting them to the other planets. “That’s the magellanic cloud!” Delbert began pointing out “the coral galaxy!’

“this is zephyr’s whole world?!” Selina whispered to Deker.

“big world, really big!” Deker replied “I don’t think there are any worlds bigger than this one.”

Anne raised her hand at a passing planet and it dispersed like dust and reformed past her, revealing it was all a hologram but even she was impressed by it, she hadn’t seen technology like this before.

“that’s the Cygnus cross and the kerian abyss.” Delbert turned and saw a planet that stood out from the others, it had two rings around it, one clear and lined and the other looked like it was made of broken rocks a debris. The planet itself had lines and circle patterns over, the same ones that were on the sphere billy bones had given them, the same one that was in Jim’s hand. “wait. What’s this? Why it’s . . .”

“Treasure planet” Jim finished.

“no” Delbert added in disbelief.

Zephyr was in shock and awe, “it’s real. it’s really real!”

“that’s treasure planet!” Jim repeated with a bit more excitement.

Deker and Selina looked at each other, “treasure planet?” they both said. Even Anne had a quizzical look on her face.

“flint’s trove? The loot of a thousand worlds?” Delbert described and asked “you know what this means?”

Jim answered “it means all that treasure is just a boat ride away”

Zephyr smirked “heh, we’re going need a bigger boat to get all that treasure”

While Delbert began describing his perspective of what it would mean, Selina turned to Deker. “do you think a treasure like that exists?” she asked.

Deker smiled ruefully “after what we’ve seen so far I wouldn’t be surprised, I wonder what it really is?”

Anne smiled mischievously “oh, you don’t know? I’m surprised, it's a legend”.

Selina didn’t like how Anne had responded to Deker’s reply but she smiled as she found a way to get her back. “really? Well since your from around I guess you know then?”. She saw Anne flinch at Selina's question, “got you” she thought and continued on “can you tell us what it is then?”

“well . . . it’s a planet . . . with treasure from some guy named flint that . . . got it from a thousand worlds, yeah that’s it!” Anne answered as best she could.

“wow, so informative” Selina answered with a giggle.

Anne smiled and vein formed on her head, “well played Selina, I’ll give you that” she admitted reluctantly.

“whoa! What just happened?” Delbert asked, startled as the map shrunk and retracted back into the orb Jim was holding.

Jim turned to his mother excited, “Mom, this is it! This is the answer to all our problems!”

“Jim, there is absolutely no way...” Sarah began to protest.

“Don't you remember? All those stories?’”

“That's all they were; stories.”

“well they do say most stories and legends are based off fact” Deker said with a thoughtful look on his face.

Jim gave a frustrated sigh “With that treasure, we could rebuild the Benbow a hundred times over!”

“Well, this- it's just- oh, my.” Sarah turned to Delbert “Delbert, would you please explain how ridiculous this is?”

“It's totally preposterous, traversing the entire galaxy alone.” Delbert replied to her request.

Everyone rolled their eyes at the response, “gee thanks, doc” Anne said.

Sarah smiled “Now at last, we hear some sense.”

“That's why I'm going with you.” Delbert added as he picked up a suitcase.

“Delbert!” sarah shouted in disbelief.

“oh look, there goes sense” Deker joked as he waved at the window, Selina giggled at the joke.

Delbert was running around the room packing “I'll use my savings to finance the expedition; I'll commission a ship, hire a captain and a crew...”

“gee thanks doc!” Anne thanked happily this time.

“You're not serious?” Sarah objected.

Delbert slide down the ladder of the bookshelf, “of All my life, I've been waiting for an opportunity like this, and here it screaming! 'Go, Delbert! Go, Delbert!'”

Zephyr chuckled at his friend, “nice moves doc”

“Okay, okay! You're all grounded!” Sarah gave a frustrated sigh.

“awww!”Selina whined.

“but we haven’t done anything yet?” Anne complained.

“Mom, look.” Jim sighed “I know that I keep messing everything up. And I know...that I let you down.” Sarah looked at her son “But this is my chance to make it up to you. I'm gonna set things right.”

“Sarah? If I may?” Delbert took her to the side and spoke quietly.

Zephyr pulled Jim into a head lock, “you better not be leaving me out of this mate” zephyr said as he ruffled his friends hair “something like this doesn’t happen often and I'm not going to let it pass me by”

Jim chuckled as he broke free of the headlock, “what? And I suppose the treasure doesn’t interest you? You could by a galleon or two with that much treasure”

Zephyr shrugged “well there’s that too”

Sarah turned to Jim with a worried expression, “Jim... I don't wanna lose you.”

Jim smiled “Mom... You won't. I'll make you proud.”

Zephyr playfully head locked Jim again, “don’t worry, I’ll go with him and watch his back. What’s the worst that could happen? Actually don’t answer that” zephyr joked.

“is it alright if we come too?” asked Deker, gaining their attention “we want to help”

“if those pirates were after that map, then we can help fight them off” Selina added.

Jim smirked “yeah, sure you could”

before Selina could cause an outburst at Jim's remark, zephyr pulled him aside. “actually mate that would be a good idea to let them come along”

“you serious?” Jim asked in slight disbelief.

“trust me mate, those strange looking pirates that attacked the inn looked an awful lot like the ones that attacked me” zephyr explained “and if they are we're gonna need their help, after all these two fought them like they've done so before.”

Jim sighed “in that case fine”

“well then I’m coming too!” everyone turned when they heard Anne’s statement, surprised as she walked up the zephyr “after all, you owe me a nights stay at the inn, remember?”

“whoa hang on!” Jim began to say in disagreement.

'it's not gonna be a simple cruise Anne and it's going to be tough” zephyr tried to explain.

Anne frowned “oh, think I can't handle myself?”

“can you?” zephyr asked and before he knew it Anne ducked low and swung her leg out, sweeping his feet out from under him and knocking him to the ground. Before he could get up and Jim to help him, she grabbed the poker from the fireplace and held it at Jim’s face while she stepped her foot on zephyr's chest. Pinning him to the ground.

Sarah and Delbert's eyes were wide and jaws dropped, Deker's eyes were just wide and and Selina just giggled.

“yeah, I’m not just a pretty face” Anne said with a smirk.

“heh heh, guess you can handle yourself” zephyr replied with a nervous smile and glanced at Jim “might not be such a bad idea to bring her along too, right Jim?”

Anne glanced at Jim too “any problems with that?”

Jim shook his his, “nope, no problem”

“thanks!” Anne smiled as she took her foot of zephyr and returned the fire poker back to it's place.

Deker glanced over at Selina, “she's good”

Selina smiled and nodded, “I know” she replied.

Delbert gave a cough to gain everyone’s attention,”Well, ahem, there we are, then. We'll begin preparations at once. everyone, soon we'll be off to the Spaceport!”
